getclayaiken.com recognizes and enjoys the diversity of Clay Aiken's fans. Regardless of how or why you became a fan or how you choose to express yourself, you are welcome. We are a fan board, however. Trolls and troublemakers will live very short lives here. Although we strive for an informal atmosphere, there are a few rules we live by, namely:
1. Respect! Or, at the very least, tolerance. Feel free to disagree or question -- we enjoy a lively discussion -- but state your points thoughtfully and with respect to other opinions and posters. Comment on the content of a post, not the poster. Do NOT tell other people how to post. Do NOT express your exasperation at how people are posting or about how other boards go about their business. Do NOT expect anyone's fandom to mirror your own. We are all different, we all come into this with different ways of being a fan, we don't all love everything the man does, or sings, or every hairdo; we expect you to respect those differences.
Do not complain about the topics being discussed, or dismiss others by making sweeping statements, (such as, "I can't believe you're all talking about this", or "why can't you all x, y, or z", or "with fans like you, Clay... "!) Do not ascribe motives to one another or to "some fans". If you can't let people be themselves (without commentary!), then perhaps this isn't the place for you.
Do not take posts personally. Don't assume that someone else's emphatic opinion about a topic is meant as an insult to you or your tastes.
2. Out of courtesy to others in this community, don't post in a thread until you've read the last few pages or days of content.
3. Cite your sources: If you are bringing over a post from another board, identify the original poster and the board of origin. Don't generalize or distill people's thoughts for them -- allow their words to speak for themselves. Don't copy over posts from other boards for the sole purpose of mocking or maligning them.
4. Please, no copyright violations: Do not post full articles in our Main Discussion area. If you wish to bring an article to the board's attention, post only a link (if available) and one or two paragraphs as a teaser. For articles whose links may expire, or without links available, we have a Print Media section in which we will allow the posting of full articles.
5. No direct linking to photos on other sites: Out of consideration for other sites' bandwidth, please do not post direct links to photos on other sites.
6. Adult language/content: This is an adult board. As such, profanity is allowed, but we expect posters to use discretion and realize we are a public board readable by people of all ages.
7. We do not allow racist, sexist, or homophobic posts on this board. If you want to express intolerance, you have come to the wrong place. Don't even try me here. Posts violating this rule will be deleted. And I'm not even slightly afraid of the ban button.
8. Graphics and Signatures: Please use thumbnails (clickable) for posting graphics as often as possible. In order to be more welcoming to those on dialup, getclayaiken.com has decided to limit post signatures to text only. Please limit siggies to four lines of text. Please, no moving graphic additions. Avatar sizes have been increased from ezBoard's limitations to accomodate more interesting avatars. Because we know you're a creative bunch, we have a graphics forum available to share art with one another. You can post "regular" sized graphics there, but please be kind to dial-uppers and don't post graphics over a maximum of ~600 pixels wide.
We have no private or hidden forums here at getclayaiken.com. You must register to post, but it is not necessary to register to read all areas of the board. If you want to discuss a topic or issue and you don't see a thread for it, don't be shy. Start one of your own.
