Hmm. He really only got snippy when he told her twice to back off and she didn't, and even then he wasn't that bad. By the end of the interview he was back in his normal interview mode. But since the reporter is Singapore-based, there may have been a bit of culture clash: calling her out in that way was probably a pretty big faux pas from her perspective, and that may have coloured her impression of him for the rest of the phone call.

That was more or less what I was thinking. Wondered if we had some cultural toe stepping going on.. -------------------- “I wanted a perfect ending. There's definitely a cultural thing here, I think, plus maybe a bit of bias on the part of the newspaper. Why? Because I seemed to remember a similar type of interview from several years ago. The link to the news section of the CH with THAT interview is here.
Sounds like Clay may need to stop granting interviews to this paper.... |

It was nothing cultural. She's an ass who asked him about a tabloid account that was entirely fictional as if it was a proven fact (the Lambert thing,) and he didn't want to move the story from the tabs to real papers by denying it, and she got pissed about it.
Because she's an ass. Who would still be an ass if she were American. Or Venezuelan. Or Martian. This post has been edited by ohsostrange: Yesterday, 07:01 PM |

There were eighteen guests over here a little while ago, only two members myself and one more. I wonder what the guests are finding to read???? Not that we aren't a fascinating, intelligent and extremely beautiful bunch of people. Only 18?? Everyone in clayland should be drawn to our brilliance like moths to a bug zapper, dammit. |

Because she's an ass. Who would still be an ass if she were American. Or Venezuelan. Or Martian. Amen. That was my take on it too. I thought she was the one who was rude and obnoxious. That Linda Huber portrait is beautiful, just like the man. That is one of my favorite pics, at least from this tour. I've read The Kite Runner, which I loved. Also his other book, which I liked but not as much. Read Water for Elephants and really liked that. The Curious Incident book was ok but since it was written from the point of view of the boy with autism, it didn't contain enough emotion for me. I appreciate why it was written that way, but I would have preferred if the author had written from multiple perspectives. I'm working on reading the others. I got two of his recommendations, one being Rooftops of Tehran, can't remember the other one, and one that was recommended over at CV. Although I don't usually agree with him on favorite music, tv shows, or movies, I usually love the books he recommends. |

and the close-up ..... ![]() ![]() That Rick Astley song is OK, quite catchy, but I have a feeling Clay would find it a bit boring these days, going by his latest tastes. A Thousand Splendid Suns was just so illuminating for me. It brought to life not only the way women are treated in Afghanistan, which is terrible, but also the fact that their country is constantly in flux as far as who is ruling it is concerned. Even though it's fiction I thought it was quite educational. QUOTE ("ohsostrange") It was nothing cultural. I agree, especially going by the earlier interview that ldyjocelyn quoted which was almost a carbon copy of the way it was disappointed with Clay - and that was when he was at the height of his popularity. Some people you can never please. I think Clay had a right to be a bit tetchy when it seemed she was not remotely interested in discussing the reason for his telephone call which was the new album. Meant to say, I'm not going to hold you to reading One Mississippi, laughn, if only because by the time you have the chance to start it, I'll be knee-deep in the new Brandon Sanderson and have forgotten everything I wanted to talk about, lol.

The Singapore interview? As friend of mine said:
QUOTE Bwah! Clay's favorite topics: Parker, AI, and Adam Lambert! This was an interviewer who knew things; e.g., the AI contract issue. Clay wanted only to say, "SongsIgrewupwithlikedwantedtosingClassicsforalongtimeandnowIcanNobodywrites goodsongsanymore." Sylvie, imagine Clay standing across the net from you, tennis racket in hand, and glaring at you with these eyes: ![]() Game, set, and match, Mr. Aiken! Yeah, Clay would win every time.
